Mon Jam Hill

Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Foundation

H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr (Chum Abhaivongs) was descended from a long line which had governed in Cambodia. H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr was born in Battambong province of Cambodia on 29 July 1861 while his father H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr was intially appointed Phya Abhaibhitaksa, as his father’s assistant to the province of Battambong.

         H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr replaced H.E. Chao Phya Kathathorn Thoranintra as the Regent of Battambong province, when his father passed away in 1892.

          The coronation of Prince Nak Ong Eng as King of Cambodia had led to agreement that parts of Cambodia including Battambong. Siam Reap and Sri Sopon would be administered by Siamese Governors

         H.E. Chao Phya abhaibhubejhr was known to be unlike his predecessors as a consequence of his studies in the Siamese capital of Bangkok. He had made himself familiar with the general customs of Siam and of the policies of Siam’s King Rama V. He was noted for his great sincerity and devoton to King Rama V. In 1903 H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr was appointed as the Governor of Burapha district and Battambong province in which he was recognized for his efficient governance.

           The relationship between Siam and France was far from peaceful during the reign of His Majesty King Rama V. By treaties of 1904 and 1907 the Kingdom of Siam gave up Battambong province to obtain jurisdiction over Asiatic Franch subjects. H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr with his family and his followers then decided to move to Bangkok. However. H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr enjoyed staying in the Siamese province of Prachinburi and decided to settle here. In order to show respect to H.M. King Rama V.H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr built a large and very beautiful building on his land. In hope that this building would be used to receive H.M. King Rama V on his next visit to Prachinburi. But H.M. King Rama V passed away in 1910. Later on, this building was used to receive H.M. King Rama VI on his visit to Prachinburi in 1911.

            The Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Building was built in 1909 by the Oward Krskine Company similar to H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr’s old residence in Battambong province. Other than being used to receive H.M. King Rama VI in 1911. The building in Prachinburi was used several times for the Siamese Royal Family.

            In his later years, H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr suffered from diabetes. As he settled in Prachinburi he greatly developed the region by donating large sums of his monney for charities and public institution including schools, hospitals and temples. Kaeow Phichit Temple on the opposite bank of the Prachinburi River to the Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Building was built his funds.

            H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr himself never lived in the building but his funeral was held there when he passed away on 27 August 1922. After his death, H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr,s descendants gave the building to H.M.King Rama VI. His Majesty later gave the building to Queen Suvadana, H.E. Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr,s daughter. Afterwards, the Queen gave the building to the government to be used as hospital.

The Yusuksuwan Museum

THE YUSUKSUWAN MUSEUM Address: 135 Prachintakam road, Tambom Dongkilek, Amphur Muang, Prachinburi

The museum is in the lush green garden 6 kilometers from Prachinburi   City Hall. Many kinds of beautiful birds and animals can be seen in the garden around the museum. Of interest in the Yusuksuwan museum is the collection of lamps hanging from the ceilings, decorating around shopping parking areas

and even in the rest rooms. As it appears today, the Yusuksuwan Museum is comprised of five buildings.

First building: Rachawadee Building hat two floors. The exhibition on the first floor is the collection of ancient silverware, barsswar, pottery, irons, kerosene refrigerators and kerosene fans. The second floor is a show room for the collections of pressure lamps, ship lamps and the lamps for slide projectors. The components of the lamps are displayed for visitors to study.

Second building: Leelawadee Twin Buildings have six rooms. On the first floor is Ratchapruk Room.                             

Ancient crockery, ceramic trays, pots and lemonade bottles are shown in this room. The next room is Chaiyapruk Room for the exhibition of brassware, betel trays, bronze bowls, kerosene stoves, and oil lamps. Also on this floor is Kalapapruk Room. The collections of bicycles and motorcycles are exhibited here. There are three rooms on the second floor. Thong-Gwow Room: Children can see many kinds of old style toys displayed in this room. Thonk-Lang Room: An exhibition of small Buddha images is in here. Thong-Pan-Chang Room: It is the place you can see the collections of scales and measurers of all sizes.

Third building: Chuanchom Building has one floor. It displays the pictures of pichinburi in the old days. Among these pictures of great value is the picture of out beloved King visiting Wat kaewpichit, Prachinburi. The collections of old newspapers, cartoons, stamps, books and lottery tickets are also displayed in this building.

Fourth building: Chow Payu Building is designed and constructed in form of a pressure lamp, 13 meters high. Visitors can see the scenery around the museum from the top of this building.

Apart from the collections of valuable things, pleasant surroundings are waiting for visitors to enjoy, including fish ponds, large bird cages, peacocks, turtle and also crocodile ponds.

Fifth building : The innermost of the museum is the boat-house, Fahpradit Building. Many kinds of boats, including a dugout one, are shown here. There is also a bamboo house that was built without nails and wire. Thai tools for living in the old days are displayed in this house, too.
